"Blogservations" #1

True to my new, expanded blog definition, I'm going to begin a new mini segment of blog observations.  Not observations that are "bloggable", but rather observations about blogs that are "bloggable." Though these observations will be objective, the reader may at times sense a degree of sarcasm or subtle criticism.  These subtleties are intentional and not meant to insult any one blogger.

With that said, here is my first observation:

I'm always hit with a sharp pang of sympathy when I find an old post that closes with a specific question, looking for input from readers, and no thoughtful readers have bothered to leave comments.

Has anyone else out there experienced the same?

  1. I almost don't want to leave a comment so that this post is an illustration of what you just blogged about.

  2. Funny, I had the exact same thought about not responding to this post and its self referential possibilities, but now I've gone and ruined it.
Initially I took your question to be related to each blogger's own old posts, but then I realized you were talking about coming upon lonely blog posts in the wild. I have no feelings of sympathy towards my own posts, as I usually write them for myself first and any questions I may ask are somewhat rhetorical anyway. But I certainly feel some empathy towards an unanswered question from a fellow blogger though and I think that's why I took the time to respond to your question.

  3. I'm laughing a little because I do feel that sympathy. In fact, I have a hard time not leaving comments even when I don't have much to add just so the blogger knows that someone out there read their post.

  4. So my little social experiment worked--you all took the bait. Congratulations on doing your blogging good deed for the day.

  7. That happens to me a lot. I get more comments from our Chinese friend than family members or others. But that's OK. I'm not too concerned about how many comments I get as long as you just read my blogs.

  9. I think John Deere would really like some comments so he knows that someone is reading his blog. The comment can be good, bad or indifferent, just so he knows you are visiting him occassionally.
I REALLY DO HATE COPYING THOSE NUMBERS AND LETTERS SO MY COMMENTS WILL POST!!!!!!
